Drap & drop tool records

There a several options to copy tool records between Equipment Inventory and BHA (Tally). The first option is to provide a Tool Class in the BHA tally and simply select a serial number from a drop-down list populated from the inventory.  This will poulate all fields in the BHA tally and copy all profile points defined for the inventory tool record.

Another option is to copy an entire BHA tally from another BHA.  This function is available from the toolbar in the BHA form and will copy an entire BHA tally, including all profile points, from another BHA on the same well.

The third option provides maximum flexibility but with a minor restriction (see below for details).  Tool records may be copied between equipment inventories and BHA's by means of drag & drop.  To drag & drop, click on a tool record in an Inventory or a BHA tally and hold the mouse button down. The mouse pointer will change to indicate the program is now in drag mode.  Whilst holding the mouse button down, move (drag) the mouse pointer over another inventory or BHA.  As shown below, the mouse pointer will change to indicate whether dropping (copying) the tool record is allowed.

Whilst drag & drop provides maximum flexibility in re-using tool records (minimizing repeat input), there is one minor restriction. For a tool to have a serial number on the BHA tally, it must exist in the equipment inventory for the well.  All tool utilization is calculated by linking the inventory record and all BHA tally records on an internal ID, hidden from the user.

Because of the above, it is therefore not possible to copy a tool record with a serial number from an inventory on another well to a BHA tally.  This would only be allowed for records without a serial number.  Although this is somewhat of a restriction, there is a work-around.  Simply open two well forms side-by-side by pinning the first form and then copy all required tool records - including their profile points - between the inventories by means of drag & drop. Now tool records may be dragged & dropped from the inventory to the BHA tally on the same well.

The above work-around is slightly more complex and therefore only practical if a few tool records must be copied.  On batch drill projects for example, it is much easier to copy the entire inventory from another well and then start adding tools to a BHA tally.
