The composition (or tally) of the bottom hole assembly can be entered on the Composition tab of the BHA form. Columns may be arranged as desired. Some specific rules for data input apply:
•Before a Serial Number can be entered the Order and Class fields must be input. The Order field determines the sorting of the tools in the BHA tally. By convention, tools are numbered from bottom to top so that the bit should always be 1. Duplicate order values may exist but will produce unpredictable sorting. The BHA may be sorted as desired.
•After selecting a Tool Class, a Serial Number may be selected from the drop-down list. This list is populated with all serial numbers for the current tool class, available in the well Equipment Inventory. When a serial number is selected from the drop-down list, all applicable data fields are automatically copied from the inventory, including all profile points.
In some cases, a serial number there may several occurrences of the same serial numbers in the Equipment Inventory. Each consecutive occurrence will reset the tool hours to zero. The drop-down list for the serial number will contain the Date On Location to distinguish the occurrences. For correct calculation of tool hours, ensure the correct occurrence is selected.
•By convention, any tool with a serial number must exist in the Equipment Inventory for the purpose of accurate utilization tracking and calculation of run hours.
•If a serial number does not exist in the Equipment Inventory, it may be created from the BHA composition.
•For tool records (rows in the data grid) describing multiple elements (e.g. drill collars, drill pipes) the Jts (Joints) field can be used to record the number of elements. An example would be tool number 10 in the above screenshot, describing a section of 6x 8” drill collars. By default the Jts field is set to 1 which should always be the case for tools with a serial number. If individual drill collars or alike must be tracked for utilization or hours, an individual record per collar must be created (with a serial number) in the Inventory and selected in the BHA tally. There is no limitation to the maximum number of tools in a BHA tally.
WellRep was developed on the concept of “once in – many out”. For this reason there are a number of ways to facilitate easy data entry in the BHA Tally:
•Copy a tool from the inventory to the BHA tally by simply entering the tool class and selecting the serial number from the drop-down list.
The same tool (serial number) may exist twice in the Equipment Inventory. To distinguish the occurrences, the On Location Date is shown in the drop-down list.

•When creating a new BHA, click the Copy BHA Tally… button and copy an existing (previous) BHA in its entirety to the new BHA.
Using the Copy BHA Tally function will replace (overwrite) the entire BHA tally. Once completed, this cannot be undone.
•Copy a tool record from the inventory or another BHA by drag & drop.
