Create inventory tool

As discussed in Equipment Inventory, tools with a serial number must exist in the in the inventory to ensure correct tool identification and subsequent utilization calculations.  The serial number therefore can only be chosen from a drop-down list, populated from serial numbers in the equipment inventory for the current tool class.

In some case, especially when building the first BHA's on a new job, it may be cumbersome to enter all tools in the inventory, requiring constant switching between the BHA and Well forms.

To prevent this, a special function is available that may accessed by clicking the [+] button in the Serial No. cell.  This will show the following dialog box:

As described in the yellow comment box, the correct workflow is as follows:

1.Create a new tool record (data row) in the Tally and enter all data, except the serial number (leave it blank).

2.Enter all required Profile Points and ensure they are saved.

3.Click the [+] button in the Serial No. field.

4.Specify the required serial number and click [OK].

The tool will now be copied, including all profile points, to the Equipment Inventory and the serial number will be set.  The BHA Tally record will be updated with a reference to the Inventory record (invisible to the user) and the serial number will be shown in the tally.

Before using this function, ensure the serial number does not exist in the Equipment Inventory (check the drop-down list)!  Failure to do so will result in the creation of an additional tool record for the same tool. However, as tools are distinguished by an internal ID (rather than by serial number), WellRep will treat these records as two different tools and as such total hours and utilization will be calculated incorrectly.
