Grouping, sorting and filtering

Data in grids throughout WellRep may be grouped, sorted or filtered to the user's preference.

Note: Where not applicable, functionality may have been disabled.

Grouping

Grouping is achieved by simply dragging the header of a column into the grouping box.  In the above example, tools are grouped by Tool Class.  Multi-level grouping (e.g. Tool Class by Hole Size) can be achieved by dragging additional headers into the grouping box.  If no grouping is applied, the grouping box will display the text "Drag a column header here to group by that column".

Sorting

Clicking a header, will sort the grid's content by that column.  Repeated clicking will toggle between ascending and descending.  Sorting by multiple columns can be achieved by clicking the first column header to sort by and then click additional headers while holding the shift key.

Filtering

When hovering the mouse over a column header, the filter icon will appear (when applicable).  Clicking the icon will drop down a list of values with checkboxes that can be clicked.  The data in the grid will be filtered to data rows that have one of the checked values in that column.  Filtering may be applied to multiple columns simultaneously.

Filter bar

When filtering is applied (on one or more columns), the filter bar is displayed at the bottom of the data grid.

Remove filter

Clicking this button will remove the applied filter.  All grid data will be displayed.

Apply filter

Unchecking this box will temporarily remove the filter.  Used to toggle between filtered and unfiltered data.

Filter condition

Displays the condition under which the data is currently filtered.

Customize filter

Customize filter conditions.  See below for details.

Custom filtering

To build a custom filter, click the Customize button in the filter bar and the following dialog box will be displayed.

Filter grid

This grid is used to build the custom filter condition.

Various parts of the grid may be clicked to add or remove a filter condition (filter row), change the filter operator (equals, not equal to, etc.) and so on.

Open...

Open a previously saved filter.

Save As...

Save the current filter to file.  This is a very useful option if complex filters are applied on a regular basis.

OK Button

Apply the current filter condition and close the dialog box.

Cancel Button

Cancel all changes to the filter condition and close the dialog box.

Apply Button

Apply the current filter condition but do not close the dialog box.

Data navigator

Data navigator

At the bottom of each data grid, a so-called Data Navigator is displayed.

From left to right, the buttons have the following functionality (moving the mouse pointer over the buttons will display a hint window describing their functionality too):

1.Move selection to first record in the data grid (disabled when first record is already selected)

2.Move selection to the previous record in the data grid (disabled when first record is already selected)

3.Move selection to the next record in the data grid (disabled when last record is already selected)

4.Move selection to the last record in the data grid (disabled when last record is already selected)

5.Insert a new record above the currently selected record

6.Append a new record below the last record in the grid

7.Delete the currently selected record(s).

8.Save changes to the database (enabled when the current record contains changes).  This function is implicitly executed when moving the selection to another record.

9.Cancel changes to the current record.
