For data exchange purposes, each well may be exported to a file. This file may be sent from the rig site to the office on a regular basis so that the data can be imported into a central database maintained on a server in the office. It is also a convenient manner to export wells from the central database to a (blank) database on a field laptop or to maintain an archive of closed out wells.
As from version 2.5.1 of WellRep, the well is exported in a single file with extension .wrxx. To simplify transferring data between databases, it is also possible to export multiple wells in a single operation. Each well will be exported to a separate file.
From the main menu in the Main Form, select [Utility] - [Export data...] to export one or more wells. The following dialog box will appear:

This editor displays the path to the folder in which the export files (one per selected well) will be created. Click the [...] button to select a different folder. |

Select wells |

Select the wells to export. This may be done by [Shift] - [Click] to select a continuous range of wells, [Ctrl] - [Click] to select individual wells or by clicking the checkboxes in the left-most (indicator) column. Clicking the checkbox in the header row will select all wells.

Add timestamp to filename |

|
If this box is checked, a timestamp (date and time the export was created) will be added to the file name as shown. This is useful when sending files on a regular basis at different stages of the well. If these files are retained, it provides a method of rolling back the database to a previous state. |

Once the well is finished, all data is consolidated and the end of well report has been finalized, it is good practice to prepare an export of the well for the purpose of data backup and archiving. For this purpose it is recommended to create a dedicated folder (e.g. 'WellRep Archive') on a file server that is backed up regularly with restricted access. Typically only 1-2 persons who maintain the central database should have access.
A few things should be noted with regards to well exports:
All data (beginning at the top level; well) is identified by a globally unique ID. As a result, wells created independently in different database will be considered different wells even if the have the same well name. The only way to create the same well in another database produce the export files for the existing well and then import them into the other database. Failure to do so, will lead to different wells that cannot be merged.
Although the export files can be opened and viewed with other programs (e.g. Windows Notepad), it is strongly recommended not to make any modifications. The files are precisely formatted and any modification may corrupt this so that the file can no longer be imported.
