Database user accounts may be maintained (added, modified and deleted) by selecting the [Utility] – [User maintenance...] option in the main menu. For this function to be available, WellRep must be connected to a database. When selected it will open the following dialog box which presents an overview of all currently defined user accounts.
When adding or editing a user account, the following dialog box will appear:
Database dictionary |
Displays current database. The user account will be added/edited in this database. |

User name |
The user name may be freely chosen, but shall not contain special characters (e.g. @, #, etc) and preferably not contain spaces. For ease of logging in a good example would be the user’s first name and the first letter of the last name (e.g. JohnD for John Doe). If additional users with similar names must be entered, it is suggested to add the second letter of the last name (i.e. JohnDe for John Derrick). Alternatively, for databases used in the field, user accounts may be created by job title (i.e. DD, MWD, etc) but it would always be good practice to define at least one account that is member of the Poweruser group which has the right to add new user accounts in case this becomes required. |

User group membership |
Defines the user groups the user will be a member of. Access rights in WellRep are defined by groups. Although not fully implemented yet in WellRep, this is intended for various access levels to the database. Currently the only right implemented with groups is the right to add or modify user accounts, for which the logged on user must at least belong to the Poweruser group. In order to make a user a member of the Administrator group, the current user must be a member of that group. Further access rights will be implemented in future versions of WellRep. |

Internet connection |
Users may be granted the right to connect to a database through a dedicated internet connection by checking the [User may connect through internet] checkbox. |
Account disabled |
The user account may be (temporarily) disabled by checking the User account is disabled checkbox. This may be useful to (temporarily revoke a user’s access without the need to permanently delete the account. |

Passwords should be recorded and kept in a secure place. It is not possible for Softdrill NL to retrieve any password. If a password is lost, the only solution is to delete the user account and re-create it.
To secure data from undesired access, it is also strongly recommended to change the password for the primary administrative account (user name Admin). By default this password is ‘admin’ (without quotes) but since this may be known to all WellRep users, it will provide no data security.
