Transaction control

Although it may appear that the Local edition would suffice for field computers, it is good to realize the further differences between the two editions and consider using a client/server edition with 1 or 2 CAL’s (these are not expensive compared with the purchase price of a WellRep license):

1.Transaction control

2.Full database backup and restore capability

Transaction control is the ability to set a restore point at any given point and then execute a number of database transactions (i.e. add, modify or delete records).  Once all transactions are completed successfully they can be committed (i.e. saved definitely) to the database.  In case any problem occurred (that could potentially lead to data inconsistency) the transactions can be rolled back (i.e. canceled or undone) to the last restore point.

A good example would be copying 10 tool records (and profile points) from one BHA tally to another.  If an error occurred on copying the fourth record, the first three records would be rolled back so that the tally items are only copied in an “all or nothing” manner. This strongly reduces the chance of inconsistent or corrupt data.

WellRep makes extensive use of transaction control but these commands are ignored by the Local edition.  Only the Client/Server edition will actually execute these commands.
