The Bit Run No. field is incremented by one (1) each time a new bit is picked up, starting at 1 for each well. The first time a bit is run, the Rerun No. field should be set to zero (0) and incremented by one (1) for each subsequent run, even if other bits were run in between. For example, if a PDC is run as the second bit on the well and re-run after a run with a utility bit, the bit/rerun numbering would be 2/0, 3/0, 2/1.
Manufacturer, Model and IADC Code are important for printing complete and accurate bit records. New Manufacturer values may be added as explained in Lookup Data Maintenance.
The Nozzles fields can be input as three combinations of quantity x size (/32” or mm) and the Fixed Flow Area field (inch˛ or mm˛) can specify an (additional) fixed throat area on the bit. If only one or two Nozzles combination is required, the other may be left blank or entered as 0 x 0. The Total Flow Area (TFA) field may be input manually but can also be calculated by clicking the calculator button next to the edit box, which will calculate the total of all nozzles plus the fixed flow area.
The IADC dull grading is entered as separate fields for improved database searching. Data may be entered manually or selected from the drop-down list (for some fields) but is restricted to valid IADC codes only (i.e 0-8 for I and O). Additional remarks (specific to the bit) may be input in the Comments field and Accessories used for the bit run can be entered in the data grid, but only if they are available in the Accessory Inventory on the Well form. If the Accessory Inventory does not contain any relevant accessories, no data can be entered in the bit detail accessories grid.
